Act T cells in the epidermis
A cell moves inside a densely packed tissue. To change the tissue stiffness, select an
option from the dropdown menu and click "set tissue". This will change the appropriate
parameters while the simulation is running.
About the Model
For details about the model, we refer to the paper. Alternatively, you can check out
the following online, interactive explorables to learn more about
Cellular Potts Models
in general or the
Act-CPM,
specifically (Wortel and Textor, 2020).
Suggestions
Try the following:
- Watch the cell for a while at the default settings. You should see protrusions
splitting when the cell needs to choose its direction.
- Increase maxact to 60 and watch again. The protrusion will become
somewhat bigger, but it will still split. Now set the tissue to "deformable" and
click "set tissue". The cell now becomes broader more often, and protrusions are
slightly less prone to splitting.
- Reset maxact=40 and lower λact to 500. Now, the
protrusion typically doesn't split, but instead turns around the cell perimeter
until it finds a new "path of least resistance" in which the cell can go.
